James Thomson's Seasons is a Nature Poem

James Thomson was a Scottish poet and playwright. He was born on 11 September 1700 at Ednam Scotland near the English border. James Thomson's "The seasons" was one of the most famous poetic works of the eighteenth century. "The Seasons" is a series of four poems written by the Scottish author James Thomson. The four poems of which it is comprised were initially published but not in order, beginning with "Winter", was published in 1727, then "Summer" in 1727, then "Spring" was published in 1728 and last fourth "Autumn" was published in 1730. The completed poem cycle appeared in the same year in 1730. Thomson broke with the witty artificial Poetic style of his day. He turned to nature for his subject matter and wrote fresh descriptions of natural scenes in rich blank verse. This style led to the Romantic movement later in the 1700s.
