b) 18

c) 22

d) 25

Correct answer:    b) 18

Thomas Chatterton

Thomas Chatterton was an English poet, he was born on 20th November 1752. He was an influence on Romantic artists of the period such as Shelley, John Keats, William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The English poet Thomas Chatterton was only 18 years old, when he died on 24 August 1770, from an arsenic overdose. The widely held belief was that he had committed suicide. At the time, Chatterton was in dire financial hardship and had written about his own life. However, suicide seemed reasonable given his portrayal as a troubled, failed artist. In recent years, some people have questioned this version of his death. The idea that he was a frustrated poet seemed to be more romantic myth than reality. One hundred and twenty-five days before he turned eighteen, Thomas Chatterton was buried in a mass grave in London.
