Thomas Otway was born on 3rd March 1652 and he died on 14 April 1685. He was an English dramatist of the Restoration period. "Venice Preserved" is an English Restoration play written by Thomas Otway. The most significant tragedy of the English stage was in the 1680s. It was first staged in 1682 and soon printed, enjoying many revivals through to the 1830s. The play was one of the most important English tragedies for over 100 years.
