a) Samuel Richardson
b) John Dryden
c) Samuel Butler
d) John Bunyan
Correct answer: c) Samuel Butler
Samuel Butler, the Auther of Hudibras
Samuel Butler was born on 8 February 1612, in Strensham, Worcestershire, England and he died on 25 September 1680 in London. He was a great poet and satirist. He is remembered now chiefly for a long satirical poem titled "Hudibras." It is a mock-heroic narrative poem from the seventeenth century written by Samuel Butler. This burlesque romance of which the first part appeared in 1663, the second in 1664 and the third in 1678, it was delightedly acclaimed at the court of Charles II as a brilliant attack on the Puritans but in fact, it was something more complex and more interesting than that. It described the adventures of an anatomical justice of the peace, sir Hudibras and of his squire, Ralphs in their endeavour to put down all innocent pleasure.
